Hey TCG fans, and welcome to yet another news roundup! Twice a month, we bring you a condensed form of the biggest news across the TCG universe.

This post will always be split into two parts – first, the hottest news from the last 2 weeks, and second, an ongoing release calendar of upcoming and current product releases for active TCGs.

Our biggest story in some relatively news-light weeks is the announcement that Magic the Gathering will be receiving some price hikes later this year. Prices for most products are expected to go up around 11%, with Wizards of the Coast attributing this to the rising costs of goods, transportation, and manufacturing. This is likely a harbinger for other TCGs – as we continue to see prices rise in general, the price of booster packs, which have remained relatively steady for over a decade, may well begin to rise for many games in our hobby. For now, this means your $4 USD booster pack may cost you $4.50 at most, but of course that begins to add up pretty quickly at the booster box or case level!
Konami announced the 2022 Yu-Gi-Oh Championships for Central and South America, coming in late June, with announcements for other continental areas to come. These territorial events are replacing the standard World Championship event for 2022, and qualifiers for these events will be held during May and June. In the Master Duel digital space, a new ban list was announced to be going into effect on May 9th for the digital game exclusively, and the general consensus on its efficacy is a vague, exasperated sigh.
Pokemon continues to roll out its betas for Pokemon TCG Live, the new app that is replacing the aging Pokemon TCG Online app and features a card acquisition system more akin to modern digital TCGs. Canadian iOS users now have access to the beta version as the global/device-dependant rollout continues. Card reveals have also begun for the anticipated Pokemon Go expansion!
Legend Story Studios have released some pretty cool looking previews for their upcoming Flesh and Blood set, Uprising, the first under the “Flesh and Blood 2.0” paradigm. This will be the first set to showcase the new Marvel rarity – cards with gorgeous full art treatments and unique frames – and includes Dragon allies for the first time.
My Hero Academia at last held its first Regional event – held online by Carta Magica – with some high quality promo prizes on the line. 368 players battled it out for the gold-foil Detroit Smash – and congrats to Maindeck’s Jordan on his excellent showing with an 18th place finish using Death Shigaraki!
Grand Archive released a Kickstarter Update that announced their plan to change their “Unlimited Edition” release of the first set, Dawn of Ashes, to “Alter Edition”. The Alter Edition will now contain a different and smaller set of collector rares than the 1st edition and with no hard limit on production quantity, in an attempt to meet both the needs of a future fanbase to have obtainable cards without sacrificing the set’s desirability to collectors and stores. Weebs of the Shore also continues its slow roll towards the showing the world it’s got a real TCG with an announcement of their presence and an exclusive promo card at major anime convention Anime Expo 2022.
