Maindeck’s TCG News Roundup, March 1-15, 2022

Hey TCG fans, and welcome to yet another news roundup! Twice a month, we bring you a condensed form of the biggest news across the TCG universe.

This post will always be split into two parts – first, the hottest news from the last 2 weeks, and second, an ongoing release calendar of upcoming and current product releases for active TCGs.

Magic began previews of their next set, Streets of New Capenna (due to Unfinity’s delay announced last month), and have announced that the set will buck previous trends and have its live prerelease release the week before it becomes digitally available on Arena, do the delight of game stores the world over. In addition to those previews, Wizards began to release previews for the Alchemy release for Kamigawa: Neon Dynasty on MTG Arena. Just like the previous Alchemy set for Innistrad, this small, online-only set will feature cards and effects that are only possible in the digital format and will be legal in MTG Arena’s Alchemy and Historic formats. Finally, a banned and restricted update was announced, primarily hitting Lurrus of the Dream Den in Modern and Pioneer and continuing to adjust Pauper.
Flesh and Blood‘s has been thick in their tournament season, showing many other TCGs that their players are ready to convene and play in person once again. This great retrospective on their website showcases the results of their ProQuest series which qualified players for their Pro Tour later this year, and they have another major event, The Calling: Indianapolis, scheduled for the weekend after this is live.
After a period of relative silence following the highly successful Kickstarter campaign Weebs of the Shore announced a delay of their Grand Archive TCG starter deck products to Q3 of this year, releasing simultaneously with the full first set, Dawn of Ashes. They also launched a new website, the Index, which contains a comprehensive card library, ruling information, print run estimations, and has a proxy printing feature planned to be added on very soon. Pokemon TCG has announced that Astral Radiance, the next set localized to the global version of the game, features the popular Hisuian forms of Pokemon from the recent video game release, Pokemon Legends: Arceus. As always, plenty of special sets are sure to accompany the release.
Amidst previews for Crimson Rampage, the second set for the My Hero Academia CCG, was an announcement that Jasco Games had been purchased by POW! Interactive Holdings Corp, whose founders have been playing the game and express a deep interest in growing UniVersus/My Hero Academia to “its maximum potential”. How that will all shake out is, of course, yet to be seen. Notably, a participant in the funding round was Anti Fund, the venture capital firm founded by Geoffrey Woo and Jake Paul.
Bandai surprised the TCG world with the announcement of their third ongoing global TCG – One Piece Card Game – set to release later this year. One Piece will join our schedule below when there is a little more concrete information about its timeline and global products.
