Hey TCG fans, and welcome to the very second news roundup! Twice a month, we bring you a condensed form of the biggest news across the TCG universe.

This post will always be split into two parts – first, the hottest news from the last 2 weeks, and second, an ongoing release calendar of upcoming and current product releases for active TCGs.

Magic the Gathering began previews of the upcoming Kamigawa: Neon Dynasty, and announced a major delay to Unfinity, previously slated for release on April Fools Day – which is now set to release “the second half of 2022”. It appears the Pauper panel announced in our last roundup hit the ground running with a new banned and restricted list update for Pauper, and WotC followed that up immediately with a major update to the banned lists for Standard, Modern, and Historic (but see below for changes to digital-only formats) to rein in control in Standard and a certain Monkey in Modern. It didn’t take Alrund’s Epiphany to see that one coming.
Yu-Gi-Oh! released Yu-Gi-Oh! Master Duel, a free to play digital implementation of YGO available on Steam, mobile platforms, and current consoles (check out our Getting Started guide here!). For the paper TCG side, an update to the forbidden and limited list was also announced, going into effect on February 7th.
MetaZoo made their first push into official organized play with the launch of the MetaZoo Play Network. And the cryptid-collecting craze appears to be gaining international appeal as well, as they announced the appointment of Craig Takiguchi, COO of Sanrio, Inc, to their board of directors. A second Kickstarter is planned to launch in early February.

On the topic of Fests, Dragon Ball Super Card Game announced a special event called Dragon Ball Super Card Game Fest, held in March in various locations in major DBSCG gaming regions. The event was initially announced with a Unison Warrior Series only format, but following player feedback, the main event was changed to the game’s standard constructed format.
Similarly, Digimon Card Game is also offering a Digimon Card Game Fest (almost like they are run by the same company!). While not as controversial as the Dragon Ball Super variant, it’s noteworthy that events for both games are planned to be in-person, marking the potential beginning of a return to normalcy for the popular Bandai games after many months of online events.
In the digital space, MTG Arena saw its first major Alchemy rebalancing update wherein they revealed that Adventures in the Forgotten Realms’ dungeons were not performing…particularly well. This update included a number of buffs to cards of the venturing variety, alongside some toning back to popular control deck cards.
